   Third-Party Personal Dictionaries
 
Third-party dictionaries complement other types of dictionaries.

Third-party personal dictionaries are personal dictionaries created by other applications such as Microsoft Word or Windows Mail. As long as they follow the MapSpeller dictionary format and their third-party license allows for it, they can be shared or imported by MapSpeller . MapSpeller will not edit such dictionaries directly.
 
Linking to Compatible Dictionaries
 
Third-party dictionaries that comply with the MapSpeller dictionary format can be used by adding them to the Enterprise and Specialized Dictionaries list.
 
Importing Compatible Dictionaries
 
The contents of third-party dictionaries that comply with the MapSpeller dictionary format, such as Microsoft Word and Windows Mail, can be imported into the active MapSpeller personal dictionary.
  1. Open the MapSpeller Options dialog and activate the Dictionaries tab


  2. Set the primary culture to that of the personal dictionary into which third-party words will be imported


  3. Click on the Import button in the Personal Dictionary section of the Options dialog to select the file to import. By default, MapSpeller will start in the folder containing Microsoft Word personal dictionary. If the logged in user has a login name of XYZ, his/her personal Word dictionary would be:
    • In Windows 7 or Vista in: C:\Users\XYZ\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Proof\CUSTOM.DIC
    • In Windows XP in: C:\Documents and Settings\XYZ\Application Data\Microsoft\Proof\CUSTOM.DIC

    And his/her Windows mail personal dictionary would be located in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows Mail\UserDictionary.lex, which is:

    • In Windows 7 or Vista: C:\Users\XYZ\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail\UserDictionary.lex
    • In Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\XYZ\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Mail\UserDictionary.lex

    The import dialog only lists dictionary .dic files. To list .lex files, type in *.lex in the File Name text box.

  4. Once the file is opened by the Select Dictionary to Import dialog, the Import Into Personal Dictionary dialog lists the words from the dictionary to import enabling users to deselect words they don't want to import into their MapSpeller personal dictionaries.
