Updating from a non-MapSpeller™ 4.x Build

Recap, The Situation:

MapSpeller is to be installed on a PC that has:

  1. ArcGIS 10.0 installed and in working condition, and

  2. A pre-4.0 build of MapSpeller still installed.

The Solution

  1. Print this procedure.

  2. Save the MapSpeller 4.0.4072 installation package (14 Mb)  to a location that is accessible to all PCs and all people who will be running MapSpeller.

  3. Using an account that has Windows administrative rights and from the computer(s) that will be running MapSpeller:

    • Make sure ArcMap is closed. If not, close it.
    • Double-click on the setup.exe file from within the unzipped package.
The setup.exe, msi and esriaddin files are digitally signed by Edgetech America, Inc.
At the end of installation wizard, make sure to keep the "Launch the program" box checked. This will install the add-in itself.

    • Start ArcMap with elevated rights (important; see illustration on left). To do this,

      • Right-click on the ArcMap item in the Start Menu and selecting Run as administrator ...

      • Unless you are using Windows XP. In which case, start ArcMap your usual way.

    • Request keycodes from the Licensing tab of the MapSpeller Options dialog.

    • Close ArcMap. Don't skip this step. If you want to continue working with ArcMap, open it back your regular way.
  4. If payment is due, contact Edgetech. The 90-day trial is free.

  5. You will receive an email containing the keycodes from Edgetech within a couple of days.

Adding Users:

If someone else will also be using MapSpeller, that person will need to login under his/her own Windows username, and:

  1. Double-click on the esriaddin file within the zip file I downloaded (follow \program files\Edgetech America\MapSpeller within the zip file)

  2. Register as a user from the MapSpeller Options dialog. No administrative rights are needed for user registrations.

Thank you for using MapSpeller for ArcGIS.
