Updating from a Previous MapSpeller™ 4.x Build

Recap, The Situation:

MapSpeller is to be installed on a PC that has:

  1. ArcGIS 10.1 or higher installed and in working condition, and

  2. A previous build of MapSpeller 4.x already installed (NOT an earlier version)

The Solution

  1. Save the MapSpeller 4.1 update package (11 Mb)  to a location that is accessible to all PCs and all people who will be updating MapSpeller 4.x. The update package is made of a single zipped esriaddin file.

  2. Each user should, using their normal login:

    1. Close the MapSpeller toolbar in ArcMap if it's visible
    2. Delete the old Add-In(s), but NOT the MapSpeller spell-checking engine (also called MapSpeller Dependencies).
    3. Make sure the ArcMap Add-In Manager deleted all the old add-ins properly*
    4. Close ArcMap
    5. Install the MapSpeller add-in by double-clicking on the esriaddin file residing inside the downloaded .zip package. No need to unzip it.

Thank you for using MapSpeller for ArcGIS.

* IMPORTANT NOTE:

Sometimes the ArcMap Add-In Manager doesn't delete the add-in properly. To make sure all previous cached MapSpeller add-ins are removed,

  • Close ArcMap, if open
  • Start Windows Explorer
  • Look into
    • C:\Users\<YourLoginName>\Documents\ArcGIS\AddIns\Desktop10.0
    • C:\Users\<YourLoginName>\Documents\ArcGIS\AddIns\Desktop10.1
where <YourLoginName> should be replaced by your actual login name.
  • If you find folders similar to {5d29b9c9-62dc-435a-bcd2-05267cffc605} that contain a mapspeller.esriaddin file, delete them.
