MapSpeller for ArcGIS: Spell Checking Map Legends

Converting Legends into Grouped Graphics

Ungrouping Graphics

MapSpeller for ArcGIS doesn't currently spell check map legends directly. However, users can turn legends into grouped graphics and then into their individual graphic components. The latter can be spell checked.
  1. Make a copy the project (mxd) file (for example using File>Saving As),
  2. Convert all the legends from the copy into grouped graphics by using the legends' context menu
  3. Ungroup all the copy's grouped graphics until they become individual graphics
  4. Spell check the copy. The Potential Typos dialog would give them a list of potential errors with suggested corrections.
  5. Manually make corrections to the original document. The easiest way would be to edit the table of contents of ArcMap if the legend is linked to to the table of contents, which is the ArcMap default.
  6. Delete the copy of the mxd document once the process is over.
