MapSpeller for ArcGIS: Spell Checking Labels

Although MapSpeller for ArcGIS doesn't currently spell check labels directly, they can be checked and corrected indirectly by turning them first into annotation graphics, spell checking those, and bookmarking errors to flag where they are. Here is the procedure to follow, with ArcMap open and the layer drawn:
  1. Right-click on the layer from which labels should be spell checked
  2. From the context menu that appears, select Properties
  3. Click on the Labels tab of the Layer Property dialog box
  4. Click the Label Features in this Layer checkbox on
  5. Select the field to be used as source of labeling from the Label Field combobox
  6. Click OK to discard the Layer Property dialog.
  7. Make sure the layer is drawn in the Data View. You should see its labels as well.
  8. Right-click on the layer in the table of contents to get its context menu.
  9. Select Convert Labels to Annotations
  10. Check the Store Annotation in the Map option box
  11. Select other options that you might be interested in
  12. Click the Convert button
  13. The layer's text on the map display are no longer labels but annotation graphics
  14. Run the MapSpeller spell checker with the Layout's Focus Map as target
  15. If there are errors they will appear in the Potential Typos dialog box
  16. Right-click on each one of them to take note of the correct spelling, and
  17. Select Bookmark from the context menu of each typo. This creates a bookmark around the annotation graphic containing the word in question.
  18. Using standard ArcMap editing procedures,
    1. Zoom to the bookmark of each typo
    2. Edit the attribute value of the corresponding feature from the Attribute dialog of the Editor toolbar.
