MapSpeller Help
How to automate the distribution of a template locationary to all new users on a single PC?

The MapSpeller system locationary User_Polygon_Locationary.shp is the template that MapSpeller uses to create user locationaries.

The default location of the system locationary is:

  • In Windows XP
    • MapSpeller 9.2: C:\Program Files\Edgetech America\MapSpeller
    • MapSpeller 9.3: C:\Documents and Settings\All users\Application Data\Edgetech America\MapSpeller
  • In Windows Vista: C:\ProgramData\Edgetech America\MapSpeller

The default location of user XYZ's locationary is:

  • In Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\XYZ\Application Data\Edgetech America\MapSpeller
  • In Windows Vista: C:\XYZ\AppData\Roaming\Edgetech America\MapSpeller

When a MapSpeller user account is created, the MapSpeller system locationary is copied from its installation directory into that user's Windows profile. The user version is the version that MapSpeller taken into consideration when the user spell checks a map.

By substituting your own locationary in place of the MapSpeller system locationary, it will be automatically distributed to all new MapSpeller users on that PC.

  1. In ArcCatalog, backup the default MapSpeller template locationary by renaming it, for ex. User_Polygon_Locationary_0.shp
  2. Create your user locationary shapefile and name it User_Polygon_Locationary.shp
  3. Place your user locationary shapefile in default MapSpeller template locationary folder (see above)

The locationary will also be automatically distributed to all existing users who may have deleted or renamed their own user locationary.
