Version 3.1 (Build 3131) Released June 6, 2011

Many of the MapSpeller 3.1 improvements made in its Build 3131 are architectural or qualitative, resulting in a great user experience.
  • Compatibility with ArcGIS 10

  • ArcGIS 10 Add-In Packaging
    • Once the MapSpeller dependencies have been installed and licensed in a typical Windows fashion, updating the add-ins doesn't require PC administrative rights...

Because of changes made by Microsoft and Esri, MapSpeller 3.0 or earlier versions will not work with ArcGIS 10. MapSpeller 3.1 is for ArcGIS 10, and will not work with ArcGIS 9.x.

Version 3.0 (3.0.3080) Released March 9, 2010

At version 3.0, MapSpeller adds table-spell-checking capabilities. MapSpeller spell checks and corrects field values in standalone tables conventionally and in feature attribute tables conventionally and/or spatially. Layer labels and geodatabase annotations can easily be spell checked through their attribute tables.

Version 2.1 Released June 10, 2009

At MapSpeller version 2.1,
  • All supported textual objects are spell checked regardless of grouping. Map and layout annotations, legends, scale bars, scale text objects are spell checked (if requested) regardless of the fact that they may stand alone or may have been grouped with other objects. There is no limitation, including regarding the depth or level of grouping, or the amount of objects being grouped.
  • Users have the flexibility in selecting the coordinate system of their personal Locationary. This became an issue for some users when ESRI released ArcGIS 9.3.
  • An error has been fixed that may have occurred when the ArcMap Customize dialog was opened.

Version 2.0 Released April 11, 2009

Earlier MapSpeller versions broke ground by offering end-users the world's first GIS spell-checker and by using patent-pending processes to spell check maps conventionally and spatially. Version 2.0 expands on these innovations by adding many new enhancements and capabilities, including:

  1. Support for additional textual objects. The MapSpeller spell-checker now supports:
    1. Standalone map and layout annotations (as in previous MapSpeller versions)
    2. Grouped map and layout annotations (Grouped graphics)
    3. Standalone legends, including corresponding layer names
    4. Standalone scale text objects
    5. Standalone scale bars.
  2. Improved user experience
    1. Significantly faster screen refresh when interacting with errors or fixing them
    2. Automatic highlight of the potential error in focus
    3. More flexible layout navigation
    4. Enhanced help system
  3. Improved accuracy
    1. Map Locationaries can now be used to spell check objects residing on the layout page itself
    2. Full implementation of the layout printable area as spell-checking container
    3. "Replace All" is now case-sensitive
    4. Better handling of punctuation
  4. Support for Canadian and British English in addition to American English.
