UFPO Reference Grid: New York Underground Facility Protection Organization's Grid

The New York Underground Facility Protection Organization (UFPO) is using Edgetech's 15-second by 15-second grid to identify where its member organizations have utility or telecommunication lines or equipment in the ground. The UFPO's goal is to protect its member's underground equipment and the general public from damage and injuries that may occur when people dig in right of ways.

Edgetech America, Inc. created this index grid in the ArcView shapefile format. With it, utilities can take advantage of their own GIS system to automatically generate a list of sensitive cells. They can submit this list to the UFPO to be notified when someone plans to dig in sensitive cells and generate a service ticket to their field crew so the lines can be marked on the ground.
